Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on his X handle that P.V. Narasimha Rao will be awarded Bharat Ratna. Moreover, he praised Rao and listed his several achievements and endeavors to uplift India's economic conditions.

Known for transforming and liberalizing India's economy in the 1990s, former Prime Minister and lawyer, P.V. Narasimha Rao will be conferred India's highest civilian award. Moreover, during his term, Rao appointed Manmohan Singh as the Finance Minister who brought an array of economic and liberal reforms to pull the country out of the economic turmoil. Rao passed away at the age of 84 on 23rd December 2004.
