Election Commission Directs Parties Not to Involve Children In Campaigns

BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a recent development, the Election Commission of India on Monday issued an advisory instructing political parties and candidates to strictly refrain from involving children in any election-related activity ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.

The ECI advised political parties not to include children in electoral activities including poster/pamphlet distribution, slogan-shouting rallies, campaign rallies, meetings, etc. The notice asserted that the commission holds 'zero tolerance' against the disobedience of this advisory.

Furthermore, political parties and candidates are directed to strictly comply with 'The Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act 1986 and the Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Amendment Act 2016. In case of disobedience, strict disciplinary action will be taken against the responsible officials and involved individuals or parties
