ECI Orders Removal of West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar Ahead of LS Polls

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India issued directions to remove the Director General of Police for West Bengal, Rajeev Kumar, and shift him to a non-election-related position on March 18, Monday.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India issued directions to remove the Director General of Police for West Bengal, Rajeev Kumar, and shift him to a non-election-related position on March 18, Monday.

Moreover, the charge of the DGP post will be given to the next senior officer in the Bengal Police Headquarters till the posting of the new DGP and Inspector General of West Bengal Police. Furthermore, the ECI has demanded a report listing the panel of three eligible officers for the post of DGP and IGP,  West Bengal by 5:00 PM today. 

Rajeev Kumar, a 1989-batch IPS officer, was also removed from the position of Kolkata Police Commissioner but reinstated in May 2016. Moreover, he joined the office as the DGP of West Bengal on 27 December, 2023.
