Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda criticized the government for raising the Emergency issue through the newly elected Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. "The entire opposition congratulated Om Birla after he was elected as Lok Sabha Speaker. However, soon after this, the government sounded a political bugle through the Speaker and raised the issue of Emergency," Hooda stated. He suggested that the government could have instead paid tributes to those who lost their lives in the wars of 1962, 1965, and 1971, or honored figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh.
