BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a recent development, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, on Friday, addressed a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take appropriate steps to safely pass Congress' Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra through the state.

In the letter, Kharge mentioned the recent incident of clash and violence during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra without mentioning the state's name. He also alleged that the violence erupted due to political instigation. He further stressed that chances of similar incidence are high in West Bengal during the passage of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Lastly, Kharge requested Banerjee to issue appropriate directions to the authorities for the smooth passage of the Congress-organized Yatra. Along with this, he also stated that the Gandhi family shared cordial relations with Mamata Banerjee.

Commencing from Manipur, the Congress' Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi is reaching West Bengal in a few days. The Yatra will conclude in Maharashtra. However, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was prevented from entering Guwahati during Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra on 23rd January, resulting in a clash between the congress workers and Assam district police. Subsequently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered the Assam DGP to book Rahul Gandhi for provoking the crowd and violating agreed guidelines. A case registered against Rahul Gandhi under section three of the PDPP Act was transferred to Assam CID.
