BY A STAFF REPORTER: Workers of the National Students' Union of India were attacked with water cannons while staging protests against Chandigarh's mayoral poll controversy on 7th February, Wednesday in Chandigarh.

The protests were launched against the recent mayor poll controversy where the Supreme Court slammed the presiding officer for defacing ballot papers and looking into the camera during Chandigarh Mayor Polls on 30th January. Moreover, the Top Court termed his actions as 'murder and mockery' of democracy.

The Chandigarh Mayor Election results were announced on 30th January where BJP's Manoj Sonkar with 15 votes defeated AAP's Kuldeep Kumar, who secured 12 votes. Shortly after BJP's victory in the Chandigarh Mayor elections, a clash broke out as Congress and AAP counselors accused Manoj Sonkar of winning through illegal means on Tuesday 30th January.
