Chandigarh Mayor Polls: AAP's Kuldeep Kumar Will Be The New Mayor

In a significant move, the Supreme Court ordered for declaration of AAP's Kuldeep Kumar as lawfully elected candidate of the Chandigarh Mayor Elections on 20th February, Tuesday.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a significant move, the Supreme Court ordered for declaration of AAP's Kuldeep Kumar as lawfully elected candidate of the Chandigarh Mayor Elections on 20th February, Tuesday.

As per SC's order, AAP's Kuldeep Kumar will now be declared as the valid holder of Mayor's post in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Furthermore, the apex court announced that Kuldeep Kumar originally had 20 votes as eight invalid votes were in favor of Kuldeep Kumar. Moreover, the Apex Court Quashed the election result by the returning officer Anil Masih. 

A day ahead of the hearing, Manoj Sonkar resigned from the Mayor's post on 18th February. The Chandigarh Mayor Election results were announced on 30th January where BJP's Manoj Sonkar with 15 votes defeated AAP's Kuldeep Kumar, who secured 12 votes. Shortly after BJP's victory in the Chandigarh Mayor elections, a clash broke out as Congress and AAP councilors accused Manoj Sonkar of winning through illegal means on Tuesday 30th January.
