BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a recent development, a case registered against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after violence during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam has been transferred to the Central Investigation Bureau on Wednesday 23rd January.

As per Assam Director General of Police GP Singh's post on his X handle, the case has been transferred to CID for thorough investigation through a special investigation team which will be constituted by ADGP of Assam. The case against Rahul Gandhi has been registered under section three of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP), 1984 on the orders of Assam's CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The move comes after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was prevented from entering Guwahati during Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra today which resulted in a clash between the congress workers and Assam district police. Subsequently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered the Assam DGP to book Rahul Gandhi for provoking the crowd and violating agreed guidelines.
