Jaipur, Rajasthan: On December 31, 2024, at approximately 4:08 PM, a significant carbon dioxide (CO₂) leak was reported at the Ajmera Oxygen Plant located on VKI Road in Jaipur's Vishwakarma Industrial Area. The incident was triggered by the rupture of a valve on a storage tank containing CO₂ gas.
Upon receiving the alert, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) promptly dispatched a rescue team to the site. Upon arrival, the team encountered severely reduced visibility, with the dense gas cloud limiting sight to just 200 meters. Acting under the directives of the Deputy Controller of Civil Security Jaipur, the SDRF team efficiently closed the main valve, successfully halting the gas leakage.
Assistant Fire Officer Bhanwar Singh Hada provided further details, noting that the plant housed two large CO₂ storage tanks. The valve failure, attributed to gas pressure, led to the substantial leak. The swift response by the fire brigade and SDRF ensured that the situation was brought under control without delay.
Station House Officer (SHO) Rajendra Sharma added that a tanker at the plant had been filled with gas on Saturday. Following the incident, police and fire brigade teams promptly arrived at the scene and secured the main valve to stop the leakage.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. The rapid and coordinated efforts of the emergency response teams were instrumental in preventing potential harm to plant personnel and the surrounding community.
