New Delhi: In a historic development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister of Delhi following its decisive legislative party meeting held at the party’s Delhi office. The announcement marks a significant turning point as BJP returns to power in the national capital after nearly three decades.

Gupta, a seasoned leader and former President of the Delhi University Students’ Union, won a resounding victory in the Shalimar Bagh constituency during the recent Assembly elections, defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate by a substantial margin.

Senior party leaders, including central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankar, oversaw the meeting which culminated in the selection of Gupta as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party. The decision has been widely hailed within the party, with officials praising her extensive grassroots experience and proven administrative skills.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, February 20 at Ramlila Maidan, where the new Chief Minister and her Cabinet will take oath. The ceremony is expected to witness the presence of top BJP figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and various Union Ministers, underscoring the party’s commitment to effective governance in Delhi.
