Addressing an event on the anniversary of the 1975 Emergency, BJP leader Tarun Chugh criticized Congress for its lack of internal democracy. "A political party (Congress) which does not have democracy within itself, for those who used to say 'Indira is India and India is Indira'... I salute the judiciary for its role at that period," Chugh stated. He highlighted the arrest of over 1.40 lakh people under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and mentioned the allegations against George Fernandes, who was jailed for allegedly plotting to blow up the Parliament. Chugh's remarks underscored the importance of judiciary during the Emergency and the controversial actions taken by the then government.
