BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a significant move, the BJP-ruled states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are likely to follow in the footsteps of Uttarakhand in adopting the Uniform Civil Code bill.

Moreover, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister KP Maurya revealed that the state plans to introduce the bill at the 'right time'. Along with this, Rajasthan's minister Kanhaiya Lal Choudhary suggested on bringing the UCC bill into the state while congratulating Uttarakhand CM. He further revealed that Rajasthan CM is in support of this. 

The controversial Uniform Civil Code's purpose is to establish a uniform legal framework for all citizens irrespective of their faith or religion. As of now, laws regarding marriage, succession, and divorce are based on various religions. the Uttarakhand ministers cleared the Uniform Civil Code draft report in a cabinet meeting held at the residence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on 4th February in Dehradun.
