Insatiable soul! Lamp lighting on Bhoot Chaturdashi after Tarpan in Mahalaya

By A Staff Reporter : Just as in Mahalaya water is offered to the ancestors at the end of Pitra Paksha and the beginning of Devi Paksha, similarly lamps are lit on Bhoota Chaturdashi to dispel darkness.

In Hinduism, it is believed that the deceased ancestors return to the mortal world on this Krishna Chaturdashi day. It is believed that ghosts wander around the house after dusk on this day. On this day, 14 lamps are lit in the house to wish peace to their unsatisfied souls.
