BSF continues to coordinate with all state agencies

By a Staff Reporter: Border Security Force is the first line of international border defence with Bangladesh up to 4142.27 km. Bsf is working in close coordination with various security agencies including state police to prevent illegal infiltration, cross border crime and create a sense of security among the people on the border. Bsf has been empowered by the Border Security Force Act, 1968 and other relevant laws and rules framed under it to perform duties smoothly. Since 1969, bsf was empowered to arrest, search and seize under certain laws and laws under the notification of the Government of India, which stretched up to 15 km in the states of West Bengal and Assam. Apart from West Bengal and Assam, other states where BSF Eastern Command is located such as Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, bsf rights are all over the state. The above changes in rights through notification dated 11 October 2021 relate only to the powers conferred on the SDF under the Criminal Procedure Act, 1973, the Passport (Entry to India) Act, 1920 and the Passport Act, 1967. The BSF has no police power as it does not have the power to register and investigate an FIR. Any detained or arrested person must be handed over to the state police or any other law enforcement agency. The jurisdiction of the state police extends to the international border. Thanks to that, the enhanced jurisdiction of the BSF will help strengthen the hands of the police. It is a capable provision aimed at strengthening and complementing the efforts of the state police. Bsf is working in close coordination with the police to conduct a joint operation. These include joint patrolling in deep areas, joint nakas, etc., and setting up of anti-human trafficking units at various places along the India-Bangladesh border.
