The Court of The Baroda Subdivision convicted and sentenced an ITBP jawan arrested in connection with the minor rape case. Judge Jitendra Gupta ruled the 2016 case in the Pocso court in Burdwan on Monday. The convicted criminal has been identified as Amit Sau.

Court sources said the convict was sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and fined Rs 2 lakh. He was also sentenced to two more years in prison and a fine of Rs 30,000 for intimidation. The role of the police was appreciated by the complainant's family after the sentence was pronounced on the day. The girl's father said, "Amit Sau was a neighbour. He had been on the run since the incident. Caught in behala in 2017. Since then, I have been counting the days when the court will punish her for causing such a big loss to her. I got some peace. ’’
