By a Staff Reporter: Princes Town MP, Barry Padarath, has slammed Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat for his response to concerns raised about a locust infestation affecting his constituency and other parts of South Trinidad.
In an interview with ie News on Thursday the Princes Town MP said that he understands Minister Rambharat allegedly stated that this was a reoccurring problem and that the locust lifespan will eventually end. Mr Padarath told us the locust has been affecting vegetation and crops in a predominantly agriculture based constituency for the past two weeks.
He also claimed that pleas from both him and his councillors have fallen on deaf ears at the Ministry. The MP is calling for immediate intervention – for the areas to be sprayed and for compensation to be paid to farmers for the loss of their crops and livelihoods. And if this is not done…MP Padarath intend to file a motion against the Minister when the Parliament resumes…
All attempts by ie News to reach out to the Minister for a comment PROVED FUTILE UP UNTIL NEWS TIME.
