Kolkata under water, KMC tries to pump out throughout the day

Despite tall claims by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation authorities, the city continued to reel under water at several places making it impossible for movement of traffic. Water seeped inside people's homes in low lying areas of Behala, Chetla, Alipore, Kidderpore, central Kolkata and various areas in east Kolkata. Authorities at local level claimed that many had to be directed to shift to higher areas. Administrator of sewerage and drainage , Tarak Singh said that lock gates were opened from 8 AM to 12 noon and again in the evening for pumping out water from city areas. But a tour of the city in the evening revealed that water is still knee deep to waist deep in several areas.
