BY A STAFF REPORTER: South Bengal Frontier, troops of BSF apprehended 01 smuggler with 55 locks on August 19. The estimated value of the seized items is Rs.44,000/-. All these locks were being smuggled to Bangladesh from the Border Out Post Hakimpur area of ​​North 24 Parganas district.
On August 19 the troops of Border Out post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion BSF, Sector Kolkata were on routine duty near the International Boundary. Around 18:10, the troops observed a suspicious youth who was trying to go towards the International Boundary (India to Bangladesh) carrying a plastic bag. When BSF personnel intercepted and searched him, 55 locks were recovered from his bag. The jawans soon seized the locks and took the smuggler into custody for further questioning. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Azimuddin Sardar (27). During questioning, the apprehended smuggler Azimuddin Sardar revealed that he is an Indian national and is involved in petty smuggling activities for the last few days. Today morning he got all these locks in Mathpara (Hakimpur) by Mofizul and Amirulla who is resident of Village- Hakimpur, PS - Swaroopnagar, District- North (24) Parganas, West Bengal. He further revealed that he kept all these locks in a bag and was going to cross the Border Security Force duty line to handed over Mofizul and Amirulla for which he would have got Rs 1000 /. But as soon as he reached near the duty line, the alert troops of the Border Security Force apprehended him with the said locks.
The apprehended smugglers and the seized locks have been handed over to Swarupnagar Police Station for further legal action.
Narayan Chand, Commanding Officer, 112 battalion expressed happiness over the achievement of his troops, as a result of which 01 smuggler was arrested and 55 locks were seized and thwarting the smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty.
