Border Youths are constantly exploited by kingpins, two smugglers arrested by BSF today

​By a Staff Reporter:  On 08 August, 2021, at around 1400 hrs, on specific information of BSF's Intelligence Branch, two smugglers were apprehended from the general area of responsibility of Border Out Post Pannapur, ​​159 Battalion. Both the smugglers had come to hide the ganja near fence. Before both the smugglers could succeed in their nefarious plan, BSF troops apprehended them and seized 2 kg Ganja. After apprehension, both the smugglers were brought to Border Out Post Pannapur for Interrogation. They were identified as

i) Heera Mohan (Age- 22 years), S/o– Hiran Biswas, Village – Charantal, Post –Dala, PS – Habibpur, District – Malda &

ii) Bishal Mandal (Age-18 years), S/o– Bishu Mandal, Village – Charantal, Post – Dala, PS – Habibpur, District – Malda.



During interrogation, the smugglers revealed that they received a bag from a main smuggler named Kartik Mandal which they were to hide near the International Boundary for the purpose of smuggling. Tha bag would have been further taken by Bangladeshi smuggler Nihar Ali and they would have got Rs. 2000/- in return from him.



The apprehended smugglers along with seized items were handed over to Police Station Habibpur for further legal action.

Harsh Nandan Joshi, Commanding Officer, 159 Battalion stated that smuggling is negligible in area of responsibility of his Battalion but sometimes touts (smugglers) lure young boys into their trap by promising them ill money, due to which these young boys are getting apprehended by the BSF troops. He further stated in clear words that they will not be allowed to carry out any kind of smuggling in his area.
