Egypt's Sisi Discusses Nuclear Plant, Grains Trade With Russian Officials

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday held a meeting with top Russian officials on the construction of a Russian-built nuclear power plant off Egypt's northern coast, grain supply and food security. Other investments, including the establishment of a Russian industrial zone inside the Economic Zone of the Suez Canal, were also discussed in the meeting with officials, including the Russian commerce minister and president Vladimir Putin's special envoy. Construction of Egypt's first nuclear plant at El Daba in Rosatom, Russia's state-owned energy corporation, began in July last year and is expected to take at least until 2030. Following russia's invasion of Ukraine, Egypt has been trying to balance long-standing relations with both Russia and western powers.
