PM Modi emphasises encouraging use of advanced technology for disaster risk reduction

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed on the need to encourage the use of advanced technologies to reduce disaster risk. The Prime Minister made the call while inaugurating the third two-day session of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) 2023 to make India disaster resilient by 2030. "We have to create a model of housing or urban planning at the local level. We have to encourage the use of advanced technology in these sectors. The prime minister called for focusing on recognition and reform of disaster management. The prime minister said the world has recognised and appreciated the role of India's disaster management efforts after the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. "We have to strengthen the disaster management administration in our urban local bodies. We need to institutionalise our plans and review our local plans. New guidelines will have to be drafted keeping in mind disaster management for building construction and new infrastructure projects. The whole system needs to be reformed. "
