Egypt train accident: 100,000 EGP compensation announced for families of victims

BY A STAFF REPORTER: At least two people were killed and 16 others injured when a passenger train derailed north of Egypt's capital Cairo on Tuesday. Social Cohesion Minister Nevin El-Qabbaj announced Tuesday evening that the government would provide 100,000 EGP compensation to the families of each of those killed in the train crash at Qalyub station. "Each of those who become permanently disabled as a result of the accident will be given 100,000 EGP as compensation," El-Qabbaj said. The minister mentioned that all the injured and their families will get the necessary social services. He, however, did not mention financial compensation for those injured. "Coordination is underway with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to raise resources and provide assistance to the families of the victims. "
