Two Canadian Firms Included in US Sanctions List for Alleged Support to Russia

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Two Canadian companies are also on a recent US sanctions list for allegedly supporting Russia's war effort in Ukraine, U.S. and Canadian authorities said on Monday. Two Montreal-based electronics distribution companies, Cipunto Inc. and Electronic Network Inc., are listed to "act contrary to u.S. national security or foreign policy interests" and are subject to U.S. export sanctions, the U.S. Department of Commerce said. The U.S. government on Thursday called on companies to ensure compliance with Russia-related sanctions imposed following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, warning that failure to do so could lead to possible trial or enforcement action. The Department of Commerce recently imposed export restrictions on about 90 Russian and third-country companies and prohibited them from buying items such as semiconductors.
