Dol Purnima is theSignificance of playing abir between Radha-Krishna

By A Staff Reporter : Dol Utsav is based on the story of Lord Krishna and Radhika. On the day of this Dol Purnima, Shri Krishna played with colors with Radhika.Even today, Vaishnava devotees offer the first abir to the idol of Radha Krishna on the day of Dol Purnima. There is a myth about Dol Purnima. It is said,As a child, Krishna went to his mother Yashoda and complained that Radha's complexion was bright and his complexion was dark. Then mother Yashoda asked him to pacify her to make Radha dark like her.

Hearing that, Krishna took his friends and went to smear Radha and the Gopinis with sticks, they beat Krishna and his companions severely with sticks, and right after that, the practice of playing Holi with these sticks started.Dol and Holi are used interchangeably but these two things are not actually the same thing. These two have different meanings. In Bengal it is known as Dola Yatra, Dol Purnima or Dol Utsav, but in most parts of India the festival of colors is called Holi. The calendar marks two days of the year. One day is Dol and the next day is Holi.
