China fishing in trouble drug waters in Manipur, Myanmar

BY A STAFF REPORTER: What is common between China, a few corrupt politicians of Manipur and the ruling military jaunta of Myanmar ? According to intelligence bureau and concerned departments of the union government, they are drug mafias and have amassed huge amount of money. ANM News investigation reveals that a senior army officer of the Myanmar army is a drug kingpin and is in cohorts with some corrupt politicians in India. China is providing shelter and funding the smuggling of drugs to foment trouble in the region. 



A vast stretch of 1643 India Myanmar border is porous, underdeveloped and hilly. Locals move 16 kilometre inside both countries unhindered. Cultivation of opium in Manipur has spiralled in the last few years. ANM News investigations disclosed that bulk of the produce is transported to drug laboratories in Chin state and Sagaing region and some are sent to Shan state.  







All these thrive under full protection of Myanmar army. But how are opium cultivation taking place in Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh? What are the government and police and agencies doing about it? Although there has been some drug busts but did the NIA or NCB take up investigations? The minister of state for external affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh admitted that drug menace has increased along the region over the last few years.
