 According to the first story, Mahadeva appeared in the form of Shivlinga on the Chaturdashi tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Phalgun.That is why Shivaratri is celebrated on this day every year as the manifestation of Jyotirlinga of Shiva.According to Shiva Purana, Linga symbolizes the formless form. It appeared on the auspicious day of Shivaratri.Shiva Linga was first worshiped by Brahma and Vishnu.According to Skandapurana, Linga is the symbol of infinity or zero.According to Mahashivratri, Shiva and Goddess Parvati met. Mahadev got married to Goddess Parvati on Chaturdashi Tithi, Phalgun. It is believed that Shivratri is celebrated in the month of Falgun since then.
