Police failed to control traffic congestion in Salt Lake

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Traffic in Bidhannagar around Karunamoyee went for a toss with vehicles standing bumper to bumper as police struggled to control the crowd thronging to the Kolkata Book Fair. Local residents claimed that Bidhannagar traffic police completely failed to understand the gravity of the traffic situation and in a knee jerk operation barricaded arterial connecting roads leading to massive traffic snarls. ``Police suddenly closed all arterial roads after failing to manage the book fair traffic on the main road. We were pushed into a lot of difficulties,'' Anirban Mukherjee, a local resident, complained. ANM News also received complaints from a large number of residents about the traffic snarls in the area. Bidhannagar police claimed that they are trying to work out a solution.
