BY A STAFF REPORTER: The death toll from Monday's devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria has risen to at least 7,926, officials said. Syria's civil defence, known as the 'White Helmets', said the death toll in rebel-held areas in northwestern Syria had risen to 1,220 and the number of wounded had risen to 2,600. White Helmets also said the number of dead and wounded is expected to rise significantly due to the presence of hundreds of families under the rubble. At least 812 deaths have been confirmed in syrian government-controlled areas. Turkey's vice president said at least 5,894 people were killed and 34,810 wounded in Turkey.
