The embankments along the river and sea are giving away because of widespread corruption when they were built, alleged irrigation minister Soumen Mahapatra. Speaking exclusively to ANM News, Mahapatra mentioned that the contractors are being identified and blacklisted and efforts are on to build new embankments where it is required and re-inforce those which can be done. ``There has been widespread corruption and a major scam over the construction of embankments and our government is determined to go to the bottom of it and unearth the truth,'' he said. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier said that there has been major corruption in construction of embankments and they are breaking down in many places letting water flood the area, damaging houses, crops and taking lives. She has vowed to take action against the guilty.
