By A Staff Reporter : Tripura has elections in February.Earlier, Left Front announced candidates for 46 out of 60 assembly seats.Of the remaining 13 seats, 12 are vacant for the Congress.Another seat has been vacated by independent candidate Purushottam Roy Burman who is a lawyer and human rights activist.In South Tripura, CPIM has nominated its candidate in the Sabroom constituency of the stateSecretary Jitendra Chowdhury.Jitendra Chowdhury has already submitted his nomination for the upcoming assembly elections on January 27.Jitendra Chowdhury is a politician who is a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He won the 2014 Indian general election from Tripura East (Lok Sabha constituency) before losing to BJP's Revati Tripura in 2019.Jitendra Chowdhury is the current state general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). At the 22nd Communist Party Congress in 2018, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee.He is the current president of the tribal Tripuri wing of the party, GMP. He belongs to AIKS, Also Joint Editor.Also National Convenor of Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch (AARM).

In 1993, Jitendra Chowdhury was elected from the ST seat as a CPI(M) candidate in the Tripura Assembly elections and he won the election.In 1993, he was elected from Manu ST constituency as CPI(M) candidate for Tripura Legislative Assembly election and he won the election. He was the Minister of Forest and Industry, Commerce, Sports from 1993 to 1998 in Dasarath Deb Ministry. He was also Minister of Forest and Industry, Commerce, Sports in Manik Sarkar Ministry from 1998 to 2014. In 2014 Indian general election he won from Tripura East (Lok Sabha constituency) and became Member of the 16th Lok Sabha from Tripura.
