BSF THWARTED SMUGGLING ATTEMPT OF WILDLIFE BIRD AND RESCUED 10 RARE SPECIES OF BIRDS

On 19 July, 2021, troops of BSF under South Bengal Frontier, thwarting smuggling of wildlife and seized 10 rare species of birds (homing pigeons). All these birds were being smuggled from Bangladesh to India through Border Out Post Dobarpara, North 24 Parganas, Border district.



On 19th July, 2021 acting on the Intelligence input, troops of Border Out Post Dobarpara, 158 battalion, Sector Kolkata laid a special Ambush near Ichhamati River (International Border). Around 2100 hrs, ambush party observed the movements of 02 suspected persons (smugglers) who were trying to cross the Ichhamati river and enter the Indian territory. When the Ambush Party challenged the smugglers, they managed to escape back to Bangladesh by jumping into the Ichhamati River. When the Ambush Party conducted a thorough search of the area, two large cages were found inside bushes in which 10 rare species of birds (homing pigeons) were recovered.  All the rescued birds were handed over to the Director Zoological Office, Alipore through Customs Office Petrapole for further legal action.



Shri Harendra Singh Tomar, Commanding Officer, 158 battalion expressed happiness over the achievement of his troopos, which resulted in the seizure of 10 rare species of birds by thwarting the smuggling of rare species. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his troops on duty. He further informed that his troops are fully determined and committed to fulfill the resolve of zero smuggling towards crimes committed on the border under the operation initiated by Inspector General South Bengal Frontier Border Security Force.
