Push for more privatization of power distribution

BY A STAFF REPORTER

Just before the presentation of the Union Budget, the central government has taken the initial step to further privatize India's power distribution sector. In the case of power distribution companies who do not have any validity of the license in the case of power distribution, the license period will expire in the middle of June 2028. The concerned power distribution company will have to apply to the Electricity Regulatory Commission for renewal of license before June 2028. The Union Power Ministry on Thursday released the draft of the Electricity Amendment (Rules), 2023 under the Electricity Act, 2003 to introduce this system. The ministry has sought its opinion on the draft within the next 30 days.
