The INA War Memorial was demolished at the behest of Lord Mountbatten

BY A STAFF REPORTER:
The INA War Memorial was built at Esplanade Park in Singapore in memory of the forgotten martyrs of the Azad Hind Fauj. On July 8, 1945, Subhas Chandra Bose, the supreme commander of the Azad Hind Fauj, visited the memorial and paid homage to the anonymous soldiers.

Later, under the direction of Lord Mountbatten, the forces of the British Empire destroyed this monument and occupied the city of Singapore. In this memorial, the three mottoes of the Azad Hind Fauj - Ittehad (Unity), Etmad (Faith) and Qurbani (Sacrifice) were written. Then in 1995, the National Heritage Board of Singapore, with the financial assistance of the Indian community living there, re-installed a beautiful commemorative plaque of the Indian National Army at the same historic site. It is currently looked after by the Government of Singapore.
