By A Staff Reporter : Kamaladevi, the fifth ship in the series of five patrolling ships in the past, has been commissioned into the Indian Coast Guard. Kamaladevi embarked on this day in the presence of Indian Coast Guard PTM, TM, Director General VS Pathania. Military and civilian dignitaries were present.
The ship is named Kamaladevi after prominent Indian social reformer and freedom fighter Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay.The ship is 48.9 meters long, 7.5 meters wide, 308 tons in depth. The ship is capable of achieving a maximum speed of 34 knots.Powered by three Rolls-Royce 71S Type Three Kamewa Aterjets with MTU 4000 series engines.ICGS Kamaladevi is indigenously constructed by GRSE Limited Company of Kolkata.The vessel is multi-purposed, such as surveillance, interdiction, search, rescue and medical evacuation. Industrial technology navigation on board ship to enhance combat efficiency,Contains communication equipment, sensors and SRCG (Stabilized Remote Controlled Gun).
ICGS Kamaladevi commanded by Commandant (JG)Sharan P. The ship will be based at Haldia under administrative control of commanderm Coast Guard District Headquarters NO. 8 (West Bengal) and operational control of commander, Coast Guard Region (North East).
