Drunken driving: Kolkata police urges social clubs to use breathalyzers on tipsy members

BY A STAFF REPORTER : If you are sitting in a social club and have a few too many drinks and feeling tipsy then don't drive. Kolkata Police has sent a directive to all major social clubs of the city urging them to use breathalyzers on tipsy members and advise them not to drive if they are drunk. The Clubs have been urged to use the breathalyzers on their drunken members.

``The social clubs have a responsibility to ensure that drunken members don't get behind the wheels. We are just requesting the Club authorities to identify the drunken members and request them to follow the law of the land and not drive,'' deputy commissioner of police, traffic-III- Amit Nath said. ``Our main endeavour is to prevent accidents from drunk driving,'' he added. Kolkata police said letters have been issued to all social clubs like RCGC, Tollygunge Club, Saturday Club, Calcutta Club, CCFC and social clubs.
