House adjourns after McCarthy fails to secure enough votes in third ballot for House speaker

BY A STAFF REPORTER: House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy failed to lock down the votes needed for speaker again as the House has concluded voting for a third round. GOP Rep. Tom Cole called for the House to adjourn until noon Wednesday following the vote. Most Democrats supported the motion to adjourn, so the House stands adjourned. The final vote was 212 votes for Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, 202 votes for McCarthy and 20 votes for GOP Rep. Jim Jordan. Twenty GOP lawmakers voted against McCarthy in the third round of voting for speaker with Rep. Byron Donalds joining the 19 GOP lawmakers who voted against McCarthy in the first two rounds.
