Messi is the only player to have assisted in five World Cups. His closest rivals are Pele, Grzegorz Lato, Diego Maradona and David Beckham, who have scored in three World Cups. Messi and Rafa Marquez have played a joint-best 18 matches as captains at the World Cup. They are followed by Diego Maradona (16).
