There is still tension over the two matches of the Qatar World Cup. The referees of the Argentina vs Netherlands and Brazil vs Croatia matches continue to be in discussion. It is known that Brazil match referee Mitchell Oliver had received death threats earlier.

This happened in 2018. Oliver received death threats. Oliver was embroiled in a major controversy after taking charge of the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final between Real Madrid and Juventus in 2018. After the 3-3 score-line, the match rolled into extra time.

With less than a minute left, Real's Toni Kroos sent the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo. Unable to maintain balance, he fell down. Referee gave decision against Juventus. Gianluigi Buffon rushed to protest against Oliver's decision. Oliver showed him a red card.
