BY A STAFF REPORTER A successful engineer, a legislator and two time parliamentarian, Avijit Mukherjee has come a long way from the shadows of his late father Pranab. He honed his skills in politics watching his dad from close quarters. Pranab Mukherjee was known as the Chanakya of Congress. Avijit's transition to politics was natural. From a high profile job in a central government company, Avijit won his first election from Nalhati to become a legislator in West Bengal. There was no turning back for him as he won the Jangipur parliamentary seat twice to become a Congress parliamentarian. But Avijit soon became disappointed with the manner in which the West Bengal Congress committee performed. The icing on the cake was Congress's alignment with the Left and complete lack of direction and highhandedness by state party leaders including West Bengal PCC President Adhir Choudhary. Avijit finally decided to take the plunge and joined TMC for a new innings in politics.
