KMC installing perforated tray on gully pit

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Is Kolkata Municipal Corporation making serious efforts to clear drain pipe connecting gully pit with manhole?

The sewerage and drainage department of Kolkata Municipal Coporation has come up with a novel idea of a perforated tray to be laid on top of the gully pit which will filter plastics and other materials which causes blockage of flowing water in the connecting pipe. 

 “We are laying ten perforated tray in gully pits in ward 82 on a trail basis. I expect that the tray will filter the waste and allow only water to pass. It will stop water logging and keep drains and pipes clear, “ said member mayor in council, sewerage and drainage Tarak Singh.

 Mayor Firhad Hakim held a meeting with Singh and other officials of the sewerage and drainage department before giving the go ahead for the pilot project.​
