A five bench bench of Kolkata High Court directed the police to file cases based on the recommendations made by a Committee of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The Bench has also issued notice to the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of certain areas, to show cause why contempt should not be initiated against them for failure to prevent violence. The High Court has ordered a second autopsy of deceased BJP worker Avijit Sarkar who was allegedly killed by TMC supporters during alleged post-poll violence. The next date for hearing has been fixed on July 13.
