BY A STAFF REPORTER

Durga Puja is a festival that is celebrated not only in India but also in the UNITED Kingdom. A large number of Bengalis live permanently in the United Kingdom. They were the first to start Durga Puja. Durga Puja is celebrated in pure Bengali rules by importing idols of Durga from Kumartuli in Kolkata. Besides, Durga Puja societies conduct more activities to engage with each other and spread love and unity during this time. In London, the Sharad festival is celebrated at the Ealing Town Hall. Since 2006, permission has been granted to immerse Durga idols in the River Thames in London.
