Brightest star in space: Sunita Williams

BY A STAFF REPORTER: August 26 is celebrated as Women's Equality Day all over the world. Nowadays there is no field where there are no women. Space is not left out. Be it Kalpana Chawla or Sunita Williams, all have made India shine. Sunita Williams is an Indian-born American astronaut who is a United States Navy officer. He spent 50 hours and 24 minutes in space in the spacecraft. In 2012, he served as flight engineer on Abhiyan 32 and then as commander of Abhiyan 33. Sunita began her astronaut candidate training at the Johnson Space Center in August 1998. Williams was assigned to the International Space Station as a member of Expedition 14 and Expedition 15. Her fellow astronaut Joan Higginbotham cut her hair on the International Space Station during this mission, and the ponytail was brought back to Earth by the STS-116 crew. Williams performed its first extra-vehicular activity on the eighth day of the STS-116 mission. On January 31, February 4, and February 9, 2007, he completed three spacewalks from the ISS with Michael López-Alegría. During one of these walks, a camera became dislodged, possibly due to the failure of the attachment device, and Williams was blown off into space before he could react. On the third spacewalk, Williams remained outside the station for 6 hours and 40 minutes to complete three spacewalks in nine days. She completed four spacewalks of 29 hours and 17 minutes, surpassing Catherine C. for the longest spacewalk by a woman. Thornton's record has been accepted. In September 2007, Williams visited Sabarmati Ashram and his ancestral village of ''Jhulsan'' in Gujarat, India. He was awarded the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel World Talent Award by the World Gujarati Society, the first person of Indian origin who was not an Indian citizen to receive the award. On October 4, 2007, Williams spoke at the American Embassy School and then met with then Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh. Sunita Williams is of Indian "origin" but her achievements are part of India.
