BY A STAFF REPORTER: Writer Salman Rushdie was attacked on a stage in New York City. At the time of the incident, the Booker Prize-winning author was speaking at an event at the Chaotaokua Institute. Witnesses saw a man running up to the stage and punching or stabbing Rushdie. In a video posted on social media, it can be seen that after the attack, many of the attendees started running towards the stage quickly. The attacker was detained.
Indian-origin author Salman Rushdie has been receiving death threats for many years for writing The Satanic Verses. His condition was not known after the attack.
