WOMEN HANGS HERSELF AND HER 10-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER:

By a staff reporter-A woman from Tirupur in Tamil Nadu hanged her 10-year-old daughter before killing herself. The woman, identified as 28-year-old Poongodi, was a widow from Alangiyam Kamarajar town near Dharmapuram in Tiruppur district. Poongodi's husband Kalidas died nearly six years ago by suicide by hanging himself in a private spinning mill. After the incident, Poongodi along with her daughter Varsha started living with her mother Saraswati. Poongodi quit her job two months ago and started preparing for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Group 4 (TNPSC) examination. She even attended rehearsals on 24 July but was disappointed with her performance. She complained that the questions in the exam were difficult.

On Monday morning, she was alone at home with her daughter Varša. She hanged a sleeping Varsha and committed suicide by hanging herself with a saree. When Poongodi's mother Saraswati returned home, she was shocked to see her daughter and granddaughter dead. On being informed, the Alangiyam police went to the spot and recovered the bodies. Officials sent them to the government hospital in Tiruppur for post-mortem.
