An unprecedented heatwave that has smashed temperature records led to a few dozen deaths in Canada. Police in the Vancouver area of British Columbia said there have been 130 sudden deaths since Friday. Canada broke its temperature record for a third straight day on Tuesday. Lytton in British Columbia recorded a temperature of 49.6C. The number of heat-related deaths is likely to rise as some areas say they have yet to collate the numbers.
