Ukai Dam released approximately 1.88 lakh cusecs of water

BY A STAFF REPORTER:  On Tuesday, 1.88 lakh cubic seconds of water were discharged from the Ukai dam into Gujarat's Tapi River. The water level in the dam jumped from 315 feet on July 1 to 332.46 feet on July 19, according to dam officials, as a result of an increase in water flow in recent weeks. The administration has also begun making plans to handle the flood-like situation that has developed in Surat as a result of the dam's massive water discharge. The residents of Tapi and Surat have been made aware of the situation by their district collectors. Tuesday afternoon's tide is forecast to be high, thus the beaches are closed. While the river's water level is rising, there is nothing to be concerned about. Superintendent engineer HR Mahakal of the Ukai Dam said, "We have started releasing water in enormous quantities due to heavy rainfall arriving from Madhya Pradesh. Water is also being used to generate electricity. Ukai Dam can hold 5,338.30 million cubic metres of water in total. Only 3% of the catchment area for the dam is in Gujarat, while 17% is in Madhya Pradesh and about 80% is in Maharashtra.
