'We took every feasible move,' Rajapaksa said of the Sri Lanka problem

BY A STAFFREPORTER:  Sri Lanka's prime minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, was inaugurated in as temporary president when Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country and resigned. Demonstrators have also called for his resignation from his position. Sri Lanka parliamentarians began the process on Saturday of selecting a new president to fill the remainder of the term left vacant by Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who fled and resigned from the top job following major demonstrations over the country's economic collapse. Demonstrators were enraged by months of food and gasoline shortages, as well as crippling power outages. Rajapaksa stated in his resignation letter, which was read aloud in Parliament today, that he "took all feasible means to solve" the issue in his country. "I believe I took every conceivable attempt to overcome this problem, including urging lawmakers to create an all-party or unity government," the letter stated.
