Sri Lanka will have a new president in a week
By a Staff Reporter: The Speaker of the Sri Lankan House wants to conclude the process of picking a new President in seven days, and the parliament will reconvene on Saturday. The agenda for the weekend meeting will be established on Friday, and parliament will vote on the next president on July 20. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will serve as temporary President and is the ruling party's favourite option to take over full-time, while no decision has been made. The opposition's nominee is Sajith Premadasa, while senior legislator Dullas Alahapperuma is a possible dark horse.
