Sri Lanka to have new president in 7 days: Speaker

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Gotabaya Rajapaksa has finally resigned after a long wait. Sri Lanka will elect a new president in the next seven days, parliament speaker Mahinda Yapa Abevardhana announced on Friday. He said gotabaya rajapaksa's resignation from the post of president has been officially accepted today. Efforts will be made to restore peace and order in the country by electing a new president soon. 

                       

Speaking to reporters, Speaker Mahinda Yapa said an all-party meeting was called after Gotabaya accepted Rajapaksa's resignation. The meeting will discuss who could be the next President of Sri Lanka. The presidential election is scheduled for July 20. Nominations will be accepted on July 19.
